Shari Darling is a status Metis who conforms to her aboriginal belief of conserving and preserving the environment.

RECLAIMED MATERIALS: to this end theMoan Factory is housed in an eco friendly building constructed from reclaimed barn beams and other re-purposed materials such as bricks, floors and counters, some being over 200 years old.

HEATING SOURCE: the building uses radiant heat provided by reclaimed and re-furbished cast-iron radiators utilizing a high efficiency propane fired boiler as its primary fuel source.

Due to the location of the building, natural gas is unavailable. An attempt was made to utilize a corn/wood pellet furnace for over a year but the system was not fail proof.

ENERGY SOURCES: the buillding uses both an Enerworks hot water system as well as a 3.2 kw solar PW steel roof for its primary energy source. Excess energy production is sold to Hydro One to support community energy loads. All appliances are EnergyStar rated.

AIR TIGHTNESS: the building uses R43 insulation in the ceiling and R29 insulation in the walls .

RE-CYCLING/COMPOSTING: re-cycling and composting are part of everyday life for Shari. Small batch production of Orgasmic Culinary rubs, cuts down on packaging. Once open, zip locks on packaging allows for re-use without transfer to another container.
